The chaise lounge is the hardest-working piece of furniture at most resorts. It is moved more than anything else on the property, it takes the most sun, salt and chlorine, and it decides how many guests the pool deck can hold. Choose it well and the deck runs itself. Choose it badly and staff fight it every evening. This is the checklist we use with designers and hospitality teams.
1. Start with the run, not the chaise
Before you choose a model, measure the pool edge and decide what sits between each lounger. Width compounds quickly. As an example, take a 60-foot run and allow 24 inches between loungers for a side table and a way through (adjust this to your layout and local code):
| Chaise width | Example | Loungers on a 60 ft run |
|---|---|---|
| 27.6 in | Beja Sunbed | 14 |
| 33.5 in | Munich Chaise Lounge | 12 |
| 35.5 in | Mara Oversized Chaise | 12 |
Six inches of extra width per bed costs two loungers on every 60 feet of pool edge. Sometimes that is the right trade, because a wider bed feels more generous and needs no second table. It should be a decision, not a surprise.
2. Length and height
The single chaises in our range run from about 70 to 82 inches long. A longer bed suits taller guests but eats into the walkway behind it. Height changes the feel of the deck: a low frame, such as the 9-inch Friday Sling Chaise Lounge or the 11-inch Beja Sunbed, keeps sightlines open and reads as modern. A taller frame, such as the 15-inch Barbados Chaise Lounge, is easier to get in and out of, which matters at family resorts and clubs with older members.
3. Sling or cushion
A sling chaise has no cushion to store, launder or replace. The Friday Sling Chaise Lounge pairs a Grade A teak frame with Serge Ferrari sling, and it is the right answer for decks where staff cannot collect cushions every night.
Cushions are more comfortable and carry color, but they come with a storage plan and the labor that plan implies. If you specify them, use performance fabric over quick-dry foam that drains. Prado cushions are cut and sewn in South Carolina over quick-dry foam with Sunbrella fabric and GORE-TEX® thread. Order spare covers in the original order so they come from the same dye lot.

4. Think about who moves it
Every chaise on a hotel deck gets dragged toward the sun in the morning and back into line at night. Two features make that easier:
- Wheels. The Friday Chaise Lounge has integrated wheels, so one person can move it into the shade without dragging it across the deck.
- Light frames. Powder-coated aluminum chaises such as the Munich, Maui and Barbados are easy to reset across a whole deck. On exposed rooftops, check the weight and plan for wind.
Several of ours, including the Maui, Friday and Munich Aluminum chaises, have adjustable backs. Check how many positions it has and whether it can be set without tools or pinched fingers.
5. Plan the premium positions separately
Most resorts reserve or charge for their best spots, and those positions deserve different furniture. Double chaises such as the Faro Double Chaise (62.8 in wide), Beja Double Sunbed (55.3 in) and Mara Aluminum Double Chaise (63 in) replace two singles without the clutter of two sets of frames. Where there is no permanent shade, a canopied lounger such as The Regatta Cabana Lounge, built in Charleston on a 316L polished stainless steel frame with carbon-fiber poles, or The Nest Cabana Lounge does the work of a cabana in a smaller footprint.

6. Match the material to the deck
Teak brings warmth and weight; powder-coated aluminum is lighter and holds its color. Many properties use aluminum for the main rows and teak for cabanas and premium positions. Whichever you choose, specify 316 stainless steel hardware for anything beside chlorine or salt water. We compare the two in detail in Teak vs. Aluminum Outdoor Furniture for Coastal Hotels and Homes.
7. Plan for year three
Ask what your supplier can do once the deck is open: matching add-on pieces, replacement cushions and covers, hardware and parts. On a hotel deck, being able to replace two damaged chaises in the same finish matters more than a small saving on the first order. Supporting projects after installation is a core part of how Prado works.

Frequently asked questions
How wide is a hotel pool chaise lounge?
Single chaises are typically between about 27 and 37 inches wide. Narrower beds fit more loungers along a pool edge; wider beds feel more generous. Double chaises run from about 55 to 63 inches.
How much space should be left between pool loungers?
Leave enough for a side table and a clear way through, then confirm against local code and the property's own clearance requirements. Planning the full run before choosing a model avoids losing loungers late in the design.
Are sling or cushioned chaises better for hotels?
Sling chaises suit high-turnover decks with limited staff because there is nothing to collect or store. Cushioned chaises are more comfortable and better suited to premium areas, provided there is a plan for storage and spare covers.
What material is best for a pool chaise near salt water?
Grade A teak and powder-coated aluminum both perform well when paired with 316 stainless steel hardware. Aluminum is lighter and easier to reset; teak is warmer and heavier.
