Prado Outdoor project
Charleston Manor
Charleston Manor is a private residence in the South Carolina Lowcountry, where the outdoor rooms carry as much of the year as the interiors do. Deep porches, a shaded terrace and a pool surround each had to work as a separate seating scene while reading as one continuous house.
Charleston sits in a subtropical marine climate: long humid summers, salt in the air and hurricane season every autumn. That rules out most indoor-adjacent furniture. The program was built around Grade A teak heartwood, 316 stainless hardware and solution-dyed acrylic upholstery, so nothing on the property needs to be moved indoors seasonally or replaced after two summers.
Lounge seating was scaled for the porch depth rather than the catalog, with dining set for everyday family use instead of formal entertaining. Cushions were cut and sewn in our South Carolina program using quick-dry reticulated foam and GORE TENARA thread, which means an afternoon thunderstorm does not end the evening outside.
