Prado Outdoor project
Downtown Charleston
Downtown Charleston is a historic district project, and the constraint that shaped it was space. Peninsula properties give you a narrow side piazza, a walled courtyard or a rear garden measured in feet, not acres, often with restricted access for delivery.
Scale therefore drove the specification before material did. Pieces were selected for footprint and for the ability to be carried through a single gate or a house passage, with seating grouped tightly enough to leave circulation intact. Nothing oversized, nothing that needed to be assembled in place and then never moved again.
The material logic is the same as any Lowcountry installation. Grade A teak heartwood and 316 stainless hardware handle Charleston humidity, salt and hurricane season without seasonal storage, which matters more in a courtyard with nowhere to store anything. Sunbrella solution-dyed acrylic upholstery holds colour under the strong reflected light these enclosed spaces get, and cushions from our South Carolina program dry quickly after the afternoon storms that arrive most summer days.
